Launched in 1999 the duo rose to prominence as part of the garage rock revival with their successful albums, White Blood Cells and Elephant. Known for their raw low fidelity sound and simplicity of composition mostly inspired by punk rock, their music is loud, deliberately primitive, stripped-down and back to basics, though sometimes melody creeps in. Making The White Stripes one of the more acclaimed bands of 2002, with Q magazine naming Them as one of "50 Bands to See Before You Die" The White Stripes have chalked up their second UK number one album, with “Icky Thump” launching straight to the top spot on its first week of release. Renowned for performing in red and white after their namesake peppermint sweets, the duo never prepare a set list for their shows frequently improvising with solos and often cutting a song short to jump into another. Paul Tappenden Marketing Director for the venue said ”We are very excited to have The White Stripes performing at The Metro Radio Arena for what will be a truly unique experience” Tickets costing £27.50 go on sale 12 noon Friday 13th July 2007
