The Big North Tattoo Show returns once again to The Utilita Arena in Newcastle on the 27th and 28th of April. Tattoos have literally left their mark in Newcastle, both literally and figuratively. As it grows in recognition as an art form in itself, as well as shifting attitudes towards visible tattoos, it’s no wonder that more and more people are choosing to go under the needle in the name of self-expression. Therefore, it’s only inevitable that the Big North Tattoo Show will be returning for its third year at the Utilita Arena, on the 27th and 28th April.
The Big North Tattoo Show has been growing in reputation as being one of the biggest and best tattoo conventions in the UK. The show is organised in conjunction with Total Tattoo Magazine, so the list of attending artists inevitably reads like a ‘who’s who’ in the tattoo world. As well as local and national talent, the city of Newcastle will once again play host to artists from across the world. If you don’t fancy travelling to Canada, Japan or Russia to get your ink fix, then this is the perfect opportunity to discover 300 of the best artists in tattooing right now – all on your doorstep.
Of course, you don’t actually have to get tattooed or pierced over the weekend. As well as the live tattooing and opportunities to check out your favourite artists, there’s an amazing arrangement of entertainment. Must see bands include Dancehall Band’s groovy indie tunes, fronted by a tattooist who is also working at the convention; and The Urban Voodoo Machine, who really know how to put on a show with their “bourbon soaked, Gypsy blues bop ‘n’ stroll”! Once again, the illusionist Kristian Jyoti will be coming to the UK specifically to perform at the show; if you haven’t witnessed it before, you really mustn’t miss his spectacular, mind-blowing performances across the weekend.
As with the past two years there’s also the opportunity to grab yourself some payday treats; from alternative wedding rings and homewares to clothing and even a pop up barber shop. Once again, the show will have a series of free retro arcade games, which were a huge hit amongst the young and young at heart last year!
