THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE AND BEYOND…TOUR
Christmas – what better time to celebrate Madness, one of the UK’s biggest ever chart bands? See the original Nutty Boys at the Metro Radio Arena on Thursday 14th December 2006.
In the eighties, Madness dominated the charts with twenty-one top twenty singles in a startling seven year period. Their influence goes way beyond this, having virtually invented the comedy pop video, setting the blueprint for Britpop and U.S. ska-punk. Their unique sound and style can be heard today in bands ranging from The Ordinary Boys & Hard Fi to The Kaiser Chiefs.
After warming up the summer with shows at major European festivals, Madness will be returning home for their UK tour in three years. Ivory tinkler Mike Barson explained why the band are touring, “You try to escape it but you can’t – it’s in our blood. Every few years we have to release the Madness and soak up the pleasure that it brings”
Saxman Lee Thompson was more candid “we were offered a chunk of change to play Europe and figured that we couldn’t really play Germany and Spain without doing shows at home – it wouldn’t be right. Plus, as it’s December, people tend to bring us presents. “Let the Madness begin, again.
