Chart topping Katie Melua announces UK tour Following the release of her second number 1 album ‘Piece By Piece’, British songstress Katie Melua announces a 16 date tour of Britain and Ireland including the Metro Radio Arena Newcastle on Monday 23rd January 2006. 21 year old Katie first came into the spotlight with the release of her debut album ‘Call Off The Search’ in 2003. The album took more than two months to reach number 1, and subsequently sold 1.8 million copies in Britain, where Katie was the most successful female artist in 2004, and sold more than 3 million copies worldwide. Released on September 26 2005 ‘Piece By Piece’ went straight to the top spot in Britain in its first week and has already reached platinum status. The success story continues overseas where it is #1 in Holland and Norway and top 5 in Ireland, Denmark, Germany and Iceland and #2 in the overall Billboard European chart. This will be Katie’s third UK tour and she is keen to get back on the road. Fans can look forward to live renditions of songs from ‘Piece By Piece’ including the Top 5 single ‘Nine Million Bicycles’, ‘Spiders Web’ and the beautiful ‘I Cried For You’, as well as favourites from Call Off The Search such as The Closest Thing To Crazy and Crawling Up A Hill. In order to maintain the intimacy that Katie strives for, the show will be presented in a theatre style setting in the arena venues. “Although some of the venues are larger than on previous tours I still want to ensure that there a feeling of closeness and a connection with the audience, that is important to me as a performer and also as a member of an audience. But mostly I’m really looking forward to being out on the road again next year” Katie’s new single, a double A-side with the self-penned ‘I Cried For You’ and Katie’s cover of The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’ which she recorded as the theme tune for the new DreamWorks film of the same name, will be released on December 5th
