About The Percy Hedley Foundation
The charity was set up by parents in 1953, with a small special school for children with cerebral palsy. Since then it has extended the work it does to its current size, of over 600 staff.
The Percy Hedley Foundation is a registered charity that provides services for disabled people and their families.
Percy Hedley Foundation is one of the largest regional charities supporting disabled people. Our size enables us to provide a wide range of services to over 1000 families each year. We aim to support disabled people and their families through the effective delivery of specialist services that are of an outstanding quality.
Underpinning all our work as a charity are four principles to ensure that we will:
o provide high quality services,
o innovate through our services,
o evaluate our work, and
o freely disseminate our knowledge.
Who we support
The Foundation meets the needs of disabled people with cerebral palsy, communication impairments, sensory impairments and complex learning, social care and therapeutic needs.
What we do
We offer a wide range of services to children, young people and adults. Our education services include Percy Hedley Lower and Upper School, Northern Counties School, Percy Hedley College and residential and respite care for all ages.
Adult services include residential services, an ever increasing variety of adult day care services, and the hugely successful Employability Projects which has just received additional funding from the Big Lottery to continue its work with employers for the next two years.
The Sports Academy offers a very wide range of disability sports catering for all ages and its facilities are used not only by many local disabled groups but also for regional and national events.
