Andrea Bocelli comes to the
Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle
We are extremely proud to announce that superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli, the worlds biggest selling and best loved classical artist, is bringing his distinctive timbre and elegant tones to the Metro Radio Arena on Saturday 12th February 2005.
There really is no stopping the Italian classical vocalist, who broke into the industry with Pavarotti's stamp of approval, exploded onto the world stage back in 1997 as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary opera and has since sold over 50 million albums in a truly unique career. Bocelli’s success is such that he is not only the world’s biggest selling classical star, but simply one of the worlds most popular and in demand male singers.
With his core classical releases, including solo recital albums ‘Viaggio Italiano’, ‘Aria’, ‘Sacred Arias’ and ‘Verdi’ and complete works ‘La Boheme’, 'Tosca' and ‘Verdi Requiem’, Bocelli has taken classical repertoire to a whole new audience. The aptly named ‘Tenor of Our Time’ has taken opera into the mainstream, winning the respect of the world’s opera and rock stars along the way! Opera, however, represents only one side of his musical persona. Bocelli has been equally successful as a pop ballad singer, having record chart topping duets with Celine Dion and Sarah Brightman - which helped him reach a much wider audience.
Undoubtedly the British public's favourite classical artist, Bocelli continues to effortlessly win critical acclaim and public affection. His album ‘Sentimento’ was voted the ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2003 Classical Brit Awards.
Metro Radio Arena’s Marketing Director Paul Tappenden said: -” As one of the most powerful, natural, graceful and relaxed tenors of today, this is guaranteed to be the classical music event of the year”.
